Píta

Pita Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups (300g) of all purpose flour
  • 1 cup (250ml) of water (115 F)
  • 1 Tbs (15g) sugar
  • 2 tsp (10g) active dry yeast                                      Serve with Tzatziki
  • 1 Tbs (15g) salt
  • 1 Tbs (15ml) olive oil

Serves 4-6

Step 1 - Starting the Yeast

  • In medium bowl, add 1 cup (250ml) warm water.

  • Add sugar, stir to dissolve

  • Add 1/2 cup (60g) flour and mix until incorporated

  • Add the yeast, mix gently

  • Allow to activate for 5-10 minutes until bubbly 

  • Add remaining 2 cups (240g) of flour and knead for 10 minutes into tight ball

  • Place dough into oiled bowl, cover with plastic film and refrigerate overnight

 

Step 2 - Forming the Dough

  • Remove from refrigerator and cut into 8 balls of dough

  • Form each ball into flattened disc, cover and rest for 20-30 minutes

Step 3 - Finish and Serve

  • Roll each disc into 6 inch-8 inch (15cm-20cm) pieces

  • Heat cast iron skillet to medium high

  • Cook individually for 3 minutes per side or until browned to your liking

Optional to add clarified butter to pan and coat each piece prior to serving.
